ZIRCONIUM CROWNS

What are zirconium crowns?

The Zirconium is a white and hard element that is found in the nature. It is used as zirconium oxide in dentistry. It is highly biocompatible and very resistant to fractures. It is a great choice for patients with Nickel-Titanium allergies.

Which teeth are eligible for zirconium crowns?

Since zirconium has a high light permeability, they can be used for aesthetic restorations of anetrior and posterior teeth.

How are zirconium crowns made?

We prepare the teeth according to the final restoration dimensions and how much healthy tooth structure is gonna be left intact, then we take a 3D scan of the whole mouth with our Intra-Oral Scanner. Our lab team carve the zirconium blocks, createsthe final crowns, then glaze and bake them according to our finished aesthetic vision.

What are the advantages of zirconium crowns?

Zirconium crowns are highly aesthetic and can be color-matched to blend seamlessly with natural teeth. They are translucent like natural teeth, unlike metal-based crowns which can appear opaque. Also they are extremely strong and durable, making it suitable for crowns that withstand biting and chewing forces. This makes them less likely to fracture compared to some other materials in equal thickness. Their preparations are less agressive compared to porcelain fused metal crowns. They also conduct heat worse than metal restorations, which in turn helps with sensitivity issues that can occur with other restorations.

How long does zirconium treatment take?

It takes around a week -give or take- from start to finish.

Is it zirconium treatment painful?

There can be a little discomfort in the first few hours of treatment due to exposed dentin tissue but after placing the temporary crowns, there is little to no pain afterwards.

Do zirconiums get discolored after a while?

Zirconium in very resistant to discoloration. As long as patients take care of their teeth properly and brush accordinly, no discoloration appears on the crowns.
